ERIC HORNER PERFORMS IN IRAQ (story added August 27)

A Christian Recording Artist is ministering and supporting U.S. troops through concerts on military bases across the nation.

For the past few years, Eric Horner has visited military bases throughout the nation. The Christian singer has been able to perform motivational, patriotic concerts and hold worship services in chapels. Although Horner cannot preach during the patriotic, motivational concerts, a liberal organization tried to cause him trouble.

"They began calling bases we were going to [and had gone to]...to complain," says Horner. "They even went as far as calling General Petraus in Iraq, to complain about me; they really attacked him over me."

But General Petraus came to the defense of Horner and his work. "He says there's nothing wrong with an evangelical preacher who loves the troops and wants to show his support" period - that's all he gave them! adds the musician.

The general's support halted the attacks from the liberal groups. Horner continues touring and visiting military bases, encouraging those who put their lives on the line for the country.

Be sure and visit Eric Horner at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY Sept. 7-13th! Stop by his booth #565 and sign the "We Support Our Troops" banner that Eric will be delivering to the soldiers at Ft. Jackson, SC on Sept 21st! Eric will also be giving away a FREE CD with every purchase! Eric Horner - booth #565

ARTISTS HELPING ARTISTS (story added August 19)

CHATTANOOGA, TN – For years, the only way for Gospel Artists to promote themselves, whether a group or a soloist, was to beat the bushes and send out press kits to every church, radio station or promoter that they could get their hands on. It was always hard to “break in” to a new area because of no one knowing you or your music. It was equally as hard to book dates without someone referring you. His Choice Music has worked to change that.

His Choice Music is a new concept created by Johnathan Bond, the owner and lead singer of the group “Young Harmony”. His Choice Music is introducing itself to the industry by releasing “Volume 1” of the His Choice Music Compilation CD. The company as a whole was created by artists, for artists to spread awareness of Christ across the nation by helping promote each other in new areas. As each artist travels and ministers in different areas of the country, these CD’s are available for purchase on their product tables. With each purchase, there is an opportunity to hear not only one artist, but several other artists with great music and wonderful messages of JESUS.

Johnathan Bond of Young Harmony was quoted as saying “As Gospel music messengers join together, I believe that we will begin to see more great opportunities to spread the GOOD NEWS of JESUS through our music”.

The newly created His Choice Music website is fully integrated and allows Pastors to see the groups that are on the CDs, purchase the His Choice Music compilation CDs, as well as purchase featured artists individual CD’s from the online store. “We are so excited to be a part of this exciting venture” said Matt Throgmorton of One Voice. “It is so good to see groups working in one accord, to help each other proclaim the message of Jesus Christ across the nation.”

New volumes of these compilation CD’s will be released every 3-4 months with a mix of well-established artists as well as some up-and-coming artist. There are many other ingénues promotional opportunities in the making for HIS Choice Music Artist.

To find out more information or if you are an artist interested in being a part of His Choice Music, call Johnathan Bond at 888-291-7161 or visit http://www.HisChoiceMusic.com

GAITHER VIDEOS CERTIFIED GOLD (story added August 13)

When a handful of gospel music pioneers gathered in a Nashville studio in 1991 to lay down tracks for one Gaither Vocal Band song, “Where Could I Go,” there was little indication of what would follow. Seventeen years later, gospel legend Bill Gaither’s sentimental gesture continues to touch such a responsive chord in his audience that of the 125 Gaither Homecoming titles in circulation, 113 have attained gold, platinum or multi-platinum RIAA certification as of June 30, 2008. Of those titles, 49 are gold, 59 are platinum and five are multi-platinum.

Among the newest titles to be certified gold are the two hymns projects taped at the Grand Ole Opry House: Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art; two projects by Ernie Haase and Signature Sound: Get Away Jordan and Together, a joint project with the Gaither Vocal Band; and The Best of Anthony Burger.

“I never cease to be filled with gratitude and humility that these videos have ministered to the lives of so many fellow pilgrims,” Bill Gaither reflected. “I simply wanted to sing a song with so many of my musical heroes—Jake Hess, Howard and Vestal Goodman, the Speer Family, George Younce and Glen Payne and some others who were entering the twilight of their careers. But God wasn’t through with them yet, and He used the Homecoming stage to introduce their music to a new generation of music lovers. What a blessing that has been!”

The newest Gaither DVDs, A Country Bluegrass Homecoming Volumes 1 and 2 will be released August 19th.

THE FLORIDA BOYS APPEARING AT SMOKEY MOUNTAIN SHOWPLACE THEATRE (story added August 7)

There is nothing quite like the sound of tradition, the excitement of hearing music that has touched people’s hearts for decades, and the thrill of sharing the musical experience that defines Southern gospel — The Florida Boys.

Continuing a 60-year legacy that has touched millions through record, television and radio, lead singer Charlie Waller is bringing the Florida Boys to the Smoky Mountain Showplace Theatre, 140 Showplace Blvd. in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. six nights a week.

“We are so excited to be able to bring our show to Pigeon Forge on a regular basis,” Waller said. “This is a tremendous opportunity for a quartet to get a chance to entertain for the receptive audiences that visit the Smokies.”

Waller said the performance will be an innovative, entertaining mix that all will enjoy also featuring the talents of baritone singer: Buddy Burton, bass singer Chip Cooper, and tenor singer Dustin Bearden.

While the original members of the seasoned group retired from the road last year, a new chapter was born under Waller’s leadership and the name and classic songs continue.

When asked how he landed such a prime opportunity for the quartet.

“We are not just sleeping on our laurels here,” he said. “We are going to bring folks a little bit of everything, hand clappers, tear jerkers, and songs that will leave a smile on their faces and joy in their hearts. How else can you leave them when you are singing about Jesus?”

Waller credits Ron Blackwood as being instrumental in helping him to strike a deal with theater owners Bob Deason and Sherry Bowman.

The group’s latest release is entitled “I Give You.....” which features a variety of Florida Boys songs such as “My Heavenly Father Watches Over Me,” “After All,” “The Master Locksmith,” and “I Must Tell Jesus” and the show will include some of the greatest songs that Southern gospel music has ever known.

Waller said his love for the quartet reaches back to his earliest concert memories. For 38 years, Waller built a reputation producing and promoting shows including the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. Preserving the industry and its legacy is a top priority for Waller, he said.
He now also serves the industry as executive director of the Southern Gospel Music Association that operates the SGMA Hall of Fame and Museum at Dollywood.

Adding to Waller’s colorful approach to show production is Gospel Music Hall of Fame member Burton, with 38 years in music working with acts such as the Smitty Gatlin Trio, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps...(Elvis' back-up group), Hovie Lister and the Statesmen…(Elvis’ favorite quartet), the Masters V, and Charlie Waller’s Grand Ole Gospel Reunion Quartet; Cooper, who brings 33-years of experience to the stage with groups like the Goodnewsmen, Pine Ridge Boys, Tar-Heel State and the Mystery Men; and Bearden, 24, who is already a seasoned professional working with Providence, New Vision Quartet, Narrow Way Quartet, and Alliance.

The debut performance is Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Shows at the theater are Monday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $22 for adults and $11 for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for groups and tour buses. For more information, call (877) 333-9330.

GAITHER VOCAL BAND MEMBERS REUNITE FOR HISTORIC TAPING (story added August 7)

Alexandria, IN (8-7-08) – Special homecoming events are nothing new for gospel music legend Bill Gaither, who has staged musical reunions of great singers from Australia to South Africa. But the one he hosted at his Indiana studios last month may be the one closest to his heart. Bill sent out a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to all former members of his Gaither Vocal Band to gather at his studio in Alexandria, IN for the first-ever reunion of the multiple award-winning group.

For 27 years, the Gaither Vocal Band has been widely recognized as the gold standard in gospel vocal groups. And while members have changed over the years, those members had never all been under the same roof at the same time until Bill Gaither hosted fifteen current and former Gaither Vocal Band members at the historic reunion at his Indiana studio. In a studio lined with vintage photos and album covers of each of the various configurations of the Vocal Band, a host of video cameras captured what Bill Gaither said was a day devoted to “remembering great songs, wonderful, lifetime friendships and sharing life’s journeys.”

Joining voices and sharing stories were the three men who first stepped before a microphone with Bill Gaither as the newly-formed Gaither Vocal Band in January, 1981: Gary McSpadden, Lee Young, and Steve Green. Also present were subsequent tenors, baritones, lead and bass singers Jon Mohr, Larnelle Harris, Mark Lowry, Michael English, Jim Murray, Buddy Mullins, Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, David Phelps, Marshall Hall, and Wes Hampton. The only constant over the 27 years, founder and patriarch, Bill Gaither, hosted the festivities, witnessed by various members of the Homecoming family, the Gaither family and wives and children of the Vocal Band members.

Green, who, with his wife Marijean, started as a back-up singer for the Bill Gaither Trio and went on to become a multi-award-winning solo Contemporary Christian artist, confessed that Bill Gaither had to teach him to sing in southern gospel quartet style. “The first song we ever sang was ‘Your First Day in Heaven,’ and Bill had to teach me that one as well as all the others that followed,” he laughed. Gaither remembered that he prepared the members for quartet singing by harmonizing on the words, “ice cream.”

Green also pointed out that it was he who provided the name for the group. “There were lots of names being tossed out, but one of my favorite groups of the time was the Starlight Vocal Band, and in one of our conversations, I recommended we call it the Gaither Vocal Band, and it stuck,” he recalled. He pointed out that one of the great things about the Gaither Vocal Band was that Bill Gaither allowed each group to have their own personality. “That’s so refreshing,” he added. “It’s been thrilling to watch the process through the years, because it’s so unique.”

Bill Gaither summed up the experience: “I love great voices, and I thank God he put me in a place to attract great singers. The joy comes from God, who is the hero of our stories and the one we’re here to celebrate. These songs we’re singing remind us of what matters.”

The two Gaither Vocal Band Reunion videos will be released in early 2009.
